“This is one of the most important scenes in the film because it really sets up our understanding of George’s grief. This is one of the only references to the discrimination that same sex couples had in this period of time and the way Colin just snaps his eyes closed, grits his teeth, and then opens his eyes again, I think really says so much. Colin’s face is so expressive and I warned him that I was just gonna hold the camera on him throughout this sequence and we shot 3000 feet, I let three mags run out, because just when I was about to say cut his face would change and the crew was riveted. And I think you know whenever you have a crew that cannot take their eyes off of the performer that you need to leave the camera running.”
